Five Things I Love About This Time Of Year

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these posts, but as it's now October, and Halloween appeals so much to my sense of consumerism, I thought I’d share five things that I love about this time of year:

1. Halloween Themed Food

I’ve always had a bit of a sweet tooth and, although it’s not the healthiest, I’ve been using food as a small form of enjoyment recently. Last year, M&S gave my favourite crisps a Halloween twist so, when I saw that they were also back again this year, I made sure to grab myself a couple of bags! Halloween Percy’s have made a comeback too, and have been joined by ‘Count Colin the Caterpillar’ which I picked up for the kids. As a huge fan of Skittles, all I needed was a 'limited edition' label to be slapped on the packet, and I was persuaded into picking up whatever flavours were on offer! This version was labelled ‘sweet heat’ and, although I’ve not opened them yet, I’m curious to see what everyone thinks when we share them out on our Friday treat night!

2. Limited Edition Yankee Candles

I love that the seasons have now changed and we are having more cosy nights in. These cosy nights are, more often than not, accompanied by the welcoming homely scent of a delicious Yankee Candle. I think Paul would have a fit if I filled our house up with any more candles, so I’ve not bought any this year, but it won’t be long before I dig out the candy corn and forbidden apple ones that I’ve bought in previous years!

3. Seasonal Bath and Body Products

I used to write blog posts specifically dedicated to the different seasonal ranges that Lush released each year. Given that I’m currently on unpaid maternity leave, I couldn’t justify spending the money on the ever increasing cost of my Lush habit, but I did manage to treat myself to a wee bath bomb and shower gel. I’ve also been having a problem with extremely dry hands recently, so I was pleased to see that the body shop have released their vanilla pumpkin range again – the little tubes of hand cream are fantastic!

4. The Return of my Fav TV Programmes

We don’t get much chance to go out in the evenings, so TV is a huge form of entertainment in our house. As this is how me and Paul to spend the majority of our evenings together, it’s far more enjoyable if we are watching shows which we are both interested in. While I absolutely love American Horror Story, the show we are both eagerly awaiting the return of is The Walking Dead, which should appear on our screens again next week!

5. Scary/Gory Xbox Gaming

For those of you who don’t know us, we are all huge fans of Xbox in this house. The kids favour games like Minecraft and various instalments of the Lego franchise, whereas me and Paul much prefer the social aspect of online gaming with friends around the world. I know you don’t need a specific season to play scary or gory video games, but I always seem to enjoy them more around Halloween time. ‘Dead By Daylight’ is a particular favourite of mine, and I’m hoping I can convince Lesley and Paul to jump on with me so that we can all enjoy some Halloween themed achievement hunting together!

What do you guys enjoy about Halloween? Are there any seasonal products that you’ve taken a liking too?
