An Evening of Colours and Cocktails in Castle Galleries

I’m still a newbie to this blogging malarkey, but I’m under no impression that I could make it as a successful fashion blogger – I’ve only just clocked what #OOTD means! Regardless of this, fashion is an important aspect in most of our lives, especially for the girls in my family! When I took my daughter to Next recently - her birthday money burning a hole in her pocket - it was evident how much fashion means to her when she emerged from the changing rooms, clad in a gorgeous maxi dress. Her beaming face was enough to let me know that maybe I should make a bit more effort with my own wardrobe! Never one to let an opportunity pass me by, the Colour Elements blogger event seemed like the perfect place to learn more about this subject - an area I have always struggled with. With such a fantastic team on hand to teach myself, and a handful of fellow bloggers, we’d be using the colours of our clothing to our advantage in no time!

The event was hosted by Castle Galleries in Princes Square, Glasgow, which is not an area I often visit, largely due to the high price tag associated with many of the stores in the shopping centre. Don’t let this put you off though, I hadn’t realised the huge variety of clothing and food on offer - even the gallery itself is definitely high on my list of things to explore again next time I’m in the area.

We were greeted with a delicious rum cocktail on arrival courtesy of Sugar Dumplin’, a Caribbean restaurant and rum shack, also in Princes Square. As you can probably guess, the tropical cocktail contained rum and was so tasty, I had to grab another! Even Sarahjane (who is reasonably allergic to pineapple) couldn’t resist, despite this being one of the major ingredients!

Once the majority of people on the guest list had arrived, Karen Finlayson (leader of the company) invited us the gather round and learn a bit more about Colour Elements and how it could help us. Each person has a dominating ‘colour element’ which is either Earth, Fire, Water or Air. Sometimes this dominating element is also complimented, to a lesser degree, with one of the other elements. In order to make the most of our wardrobe, we should wear colours which ‘belong’ to our element and hence, suit us more. By adding splashes of colour from our less dominating element, we also have the ability to stand out from a crowd without washing out our skin by wearing the wrong colours. In theory, this should allow us to create a capsule wardrobe and prevent us wasting money on clothes, 70% of which we will never wear again!

As part of the event, each of us were given a personal consultation where our ‘element’ was revealed to us. Karen described me as an Air person, but with a touch of Fire, allowing me to add splashes of brighter colours to the more gentle hues associated with my primary element. She also showed me the Colour Elements app, which has been developed to easily allow colour matching on the go, perfect when out shopping with friends. There is also the ability to create colour boards and either save them for later, or send them to others if friends or relatives are searching for a suitable clothing gift.

Once everything was explained to us, we were invited to explore the surroundings of the galleries itself and sample some of the products from other suppliers who were present. The Body Shop were on hand to demonstrate their new #DareToMask range of face masks, along with some of their brand new eye shadow palettes.

Savoury food was delivered to us courtesy of Zizzi, along with sweet treats in the form of brightly coloured cupcakes from Snuggle Muffin. Neither myself, nor Sarahjane had eaten anything since lunchtime, so the food was a welcome addition to our evening.

The gallery itself has some beautiful collections on display at the moment, I couldn't help but imagine how brilliantly most of the paintings would fit in my own house. I’m particularly fond of the superhero themed works of Craig Davison and also the surreal 3D paintings of John D. Wilson, who manages to create an amazing optical illusion which can grab you attention for hours.

The evening was wrapped up with our departing gift of a superb wee goody bag from The Body Shop. Filled with generous sized samples from their skincare range, I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and trying them!

    1. If you tag them in a photo on Instagram, they will let you know your element - then download the app while it's still free and away you go! :)
