Hard Rock Café – Glasgow Visit

For those of you who didn’t catch my post on the Edinburgh Hard Rock Café last month, I have recently started a personal challenge to visit all the Hard Rock destinations around the world. I don’t imagine it will be easy, and it will probably take longer than my lifetime, but it gives us something to do on future holidays! Given that we are not currently planning any foreign trips, I thought my second destination should be close to home.

The Glasgow Hard Rock Café is conveniently located on Buchannan Street, right in the middle of Glasgow’s city centre. The entrance to the Buchannan Street subway station is just outside the building, and the local bus and train stations are no more than a five minute walk away, making this Café very easy to get to.

The building itself is absolutely lovely – it was once the Atheanaeum Theatre and later became the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, before being restored to its present form today. The entrance has a spiral stone staircase with metal guitars hanging through the middle and, once you get inside and through the Rock Shop, the whole room opens up into a beautiful high ceilinged area with a large bar and a circular, lowered seating area in the middle of the floor.

On this particular occasion, I was visiting with friends after a girly shopping trip. We’d planned to have an early(ish) dinner, so arrived at about 6pm and were immediately seated. I’d also been to this café a few times before, so knew it got busier later in the evening. Given that we couldn’t stop gossiping, it took us a while to order our food, but once we’d chosen, it arrived pretty quickly.

I decided against a cocktail, even though the local favourites did seem pretty interesting – one contained Buckfast and the other Mad Dog 20/20! On a previous visit with Paul, I had a rather tasty strawberry cocktail of some sorts, but I’d already had a few by this point and had no idea what it really was! Given that this is my local Hard Rock, no doubt I will have plenty of opportunities to try out their huge selection in the future.

For food, I went with my usual favourite – cheese and bacon potato skins, although this time I added two portions of posh chips. Alice went for Mac ‘n’ Cheese, which immediately gave me food envy, and Sarahjane choose the Jamaican Jerk Burger from the World Burger Tour menu. The portion sizes were so big, it was impossible to finish it all, despite it tasting amazing. I kept looking longingly at my chips, until the moment the waitress took them away – I will bear this in mind when planning a return visit!

I never usually leave a Hard Rock Café empty handed so we browsed through the memorabilia in the Rock Shop before leaving. I think the girls had already exhausted their wallets after a successful shopping trip during the day, but I still wanted to check out the merchandise. Although there was nothing that caught my eye on this visit, I’d picked up a hoodie in the sale on my last visit with Paul, so I still have an item from Glasgow to add to my collection.

Overall, this visit to the Glasgow café was a great, although I’m not sure the girls are as obsessed with the franchise as I am. I pointed out the loyalty card scheme (Hard Rock Rewards) but neither wanted to join – oh well, more points for me! We all enjoyed our food and, minus a small delay when paying the bill, all service was great. The food isn’t necessarily friendly for my diet, but I’m already thinking about my next excuse for a visit – perhaps I could introduce my Mum?!

Have you visited any of the other Hard Rock Cafés?

Sarahjane showing off her 'blue steel' and me, far too excited to be there!
