Most of you now know, I recently got married and spent a fantastic honeymoon in rainy Seattle! An odd choice for a romantic getaway, but a place both of us wanted to visit and neither of us had been before. With my current ‘Hard Rock’ obsession, it was also obvious I would pick somewhere that was home to one of their cafes, so luckily Seattle fit the bill nicely!
When I visited Denver, my hotel was almost right next to a Hard Rock Café, and Seattle was no different! Situated near the famous Pike Place Market, and just a couple of doors down from the original Starbucks, Hard Rock Seattle was easy to locate and no more than a ten minute walk from our hotel on the waterfront – the perfect place for dinner on our first night in the city!
When we arrived, the whole place was almost empty – perhaps us British folk just eat way too early in the evening?! We were quickly shown to a comfortable booth and a wonderfully polite waiter, by the name of Tyler, took our drinks order. I did ask if they had any legendary cocktails, specific to Seattle, but the confused look on his face let me know that I’d probably be out of luck. Given that Paul had opted for a soft drink, I settled for a diet Pepsi as I didn’t want to be the only one of us drinking. Perhaps only Hard Rock Glasgow (so far) has decided to make its own brand of drinks, their cocktails come complete with the delicious Scottish delicacies of MD 20/20 and Buckfast!
With the prompt arrival of the drinks, Tyler was almost instantly available to take our food order too! Having branched away from my usual potato skins, my current Hard Rock favourite is the honey mustard chicken sandwich, so I was pleased to see this also featured on the Seattle menu. Paul chose the famous ‘Java Lava’ burger, which is the Seattle equivalent of the local legendary, and even comes topped with a fried jalapeno! I’m not going to lie, I had serious food envy when I saw the mountain of crispy onions that were also stuffed into Paul’s burger – it’s a good job I don’t like beef, or I’d have been eating both the meals that evening!
As with any visit to a new Hard Rock, our exit route is always through the Rock Shop! I forced Paul (although he didn’t need much encouragement) to pick himself another t-shirt for his collection – but, to my disappointment, he didn’t choose the one of Seattle’s skyline, which I liked the best. In fairness, the colour probably wouldn’t have suited him, so his choice was much better. I went for a new pin, complete with iconic Space Needle motif, to remember my visit!
Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to Seattle’s Hard Rock Café! The food and service were so great, that we even returned at the end of our stay, just before leaving for the airport, and ordered exactly the same things a second time! Everyone was extremely polite and expressed warm congratulations for the start of our married life together and we even got talking with Tyler about his own wedding plans – best of luck for the future pal, I hope you enjoy getting married just as much as we did!
