Bringing Back The Happy Thoughts

Yet again, I feel like it’s been ages since my last post. With work getting busier and wedding plans now moving forward with increasing speed, I seem to have fallen out of step with my blog – but I’m determined to get it back! Given the rather grim outlook for the UK currently after the ‘Brexit’ vote – and also the fact that we have just scared ourselves silly watching ‘The Conjuring 2’ – I figured that recalling the happy events of the past week wouldn’t be a bad way to go. Despite the fact I’m typing this after midnight, I doubt sleep will come easy when I’ve just spent the past couple of hours sat in the dark with a demonic nun!

Anyways, on with the happy…

Treats from the Lush Kitchen

After recently discovering the online wonderland that is the Lush Kitchen, I’m now constantly checking for forgotten treats from Lush history. When I saw the return of ‘Vanilla Dee-Lite’ body lotion, I immediately phoned Paul up and begged him to buy it for me – he’s good that way! This lotion was one of my favourites before they retired it from the shelves, and I’ve missed it ever since. When the tell-tale package arrived at my door last Friday, I was transported to scrumptious vanilla heaven once more!

The Return of the Work Buddies

Monday saw the return of Alice and Sarahjane from their world wind trip to the States. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous, but the excitement at having them back was almost too much! I’d been following them on Facebook all of the previous week as they visited the many famous sights of New York – they even managed a quick trip to the local Hard Rock Café. Knowing of my plan for attempting to visit every one, they felt bad that I couldn’t join them, so brought me back a New York pin to add to my memorabilia collection. Candy treats were also supplied to the rest of the office – they know how to look after us!

Gifts for the Kiddies

Last Saturday, we had a lovely visit from one of my bridesmaids, Lesley. With both our busy schedules, it’s not often we get time to see each other anymore, so I always love it when she comes round for a girly catch up. Megan was eager to show her all the rainforest project work she’d been doing at school, and Logan begged her to read a selection of his favourite stories. Both my kids adore Lesley, so she is often swarmed by them as soon as she sits down on the couch.

When we all got in from work on Tuesday evening, two mystery packages had been left with my neighbour – these turned out to be gifts from Lesley – jungle themed Lego for Megan (to go with her rainforest work) and some new stories for Logan (because ‘wees’ and ‘bottoms’ are the most hilarious things little boys can talk about)! Thanks again Lesley, the kids are ever so grateful!

Immersed in a New Book

Since starting ‘The Readers’ book club, I’m pleased to say my love of reading has returned. After finishing our current book in record time, I had plenty of spare time to get lost in the latest fantasies from my favourite author. Laurell K. Hamilton is a master of the vampire genre and, although her novels have fallen short of expectations in recent years, I’m pleased to say that ‘Dead Ice’ has returned to the original standard that I fell in love with. I can’t wait until later in the year and the debut of ‘Crimson Death’, her next instalment!

And Finally…

Success at Work

Progress with my PhD has been very slow and, as I enter my final year, I find myself facing the challenge of gaining enough new results to string together a decent thesis within the next 12 months. My research focuses on using 3D printing in the manufacture of medicine and this past week has seen huge advancements towards that goal. I’m hugely grateful to all my work buddies who have helped with the various challenges I’ve encountered, I’m now almost convinced that the whole thing is not impossible!

I’m hoping this post spells the end for my writers block, with a camping trip tomorrow and holidays approaching, I’m sure I’ll not be short of things to talk about – what did you guys enjoy this week?

  1. Mmm, Lush. I don't think I've tried the Vanilla one you mentioned but it's my boyfriends' favourite scent so I may have to look into it for him!

    1. They were delicious and full of flavour, but I do wonder if that was because of all the artificial additives! My son loves his new book though, proper giggles whenever we read it! :)

  9. Oh maybe I should join a bookclub - I used to be great at reading and get through loads of books - now I struggle to get through 2 a year. I blame social media on my phone ;-) I don't know how you find time to read with everything else going on in your life!
