Holiday Fun with Paradise Island Adventure Golf

Who doesn’t love a bit of mini golf? The crazy courses, the novelty designs, the intricate contraptions that spin the ball in all directions – what’s not to love?! When I heard that Paradise Island Adventure Golf were celebrating their tenth birthday at intu Braehead, I was delighted to be invited along to try it out.

As the kids were enjoying some holiday time with Grandma, I invited Andy and Nikki along to join us, and we had an absolute blast! There are two courses on offer at intu Braehead – The Tiki Hut Trail, which provides a fun adventure for all skill levels and Maggie McCaw’s Challenge, a more adventurous expedition for experienced players. We chose the first course as Andy and Nikki had their daughter with them and it was an easier course to navigate with a baby buggy.

Ever in the competitive spirit, Andy quickly soared into the lead with expert swings and enviable putting skills. Nikki brought up the rear, with a particularly troublesome par two hole taking a total of seven shots to complete! I wasn’t much better than Nikki, but I did manage a hole in one early in the game – my only success from the day!

The tenth hole featured an added challenge, with staff giving out goody bags to any lucky player who could sink a hole in one – unfortunately, a hole in two was the best any of us managed. As commiseration prizes we were given Paradise Island scratch cards, each revealing a £5 discount for our next visit. I’m eager to return and try my hand at the other course, Andy has boosted my competitive spirit and I’m determined for a rematch!

The course culminates with a ‘19th Hole’, which is similar to a carnival game, where the player attempts to get the ball into the centre hole in order to win a free game pass for future visits. Despite our best efforts, none of us managed this feat, but I did get quite close with my own attempt.

Paradise Island is not just local to Braehead, there are also adventure golf courses in four additional locations across the UK – Manchester, Cheshire, Sheffield and Livingston. I have visited the Livingston course on an earlier occasion, and would recommend either location to potential customers. Livingston demonstrates a nautical theme, with voyagers tackling either the Barnacle Bay or Lost Lagoon courses on their adventure.

Prices per 18-hole round of golf are:

- Under 5’s - £3.50
- 5 – 16’s - £5.50
- Student / Concession - £6.00
- Adult - £7.50
- Family of 4 - £22.00
- Group of 4 - £27.00

We all had a fantastic time, although I don’t think any of us will be pursuing a golfing career anytime soon! As a final point, it is important to note that we were golfing at lunchtime on a Saturday during the summer holidays and, as such, the venue was very busy. For those of you hoping for a quieter experience, I would advise choosing an earlier time in order to avoid the crowds!

P.S. The lighting was very yellow, so most of my pictures have an odd glow about them...
