Family Sundays With The Trading House

Sundays are usually a difficult day for us – it’s the end of the week, we’re exhausted and we’re both filled with the Monday dread. Quality family time is the last thing on our mind, as we rush around doing housework and wishing our kids would stop fighting with each other! While we try to have a family dinner every Sunday, the hassle of preparing a glorious home cooked feast is often too much for Paul, and we resort to our usual favourite recipes, eating after the kids are in bed. When The Trading House in Glasgow got in touch to offer us a taste of their Sunday Roast, we jumped at the chance for a relaxing family dinner with none of the annoying preparation!

We had been looking forward to visiting The Trading House well before being invited to sample the cuisine – our friends recently moved back to the area and are partial to good beers and whisky. They were recommended this place and now they visit all the time! Knowing their good taste, I expected nothing less than a perfect experience and The Trading House delivered in every aspect!

With the kids excited for their family day out, we bussed it in to town and made a stop off at the Lego store, before turning up for our booking at 12pm. Upon arrival, we were greeted by some of the friendliest restaurant staff I have ever met! We had a choice of sitting in either the bar or the restaurant sections, but decided to venture deeper into the building and avoid the heat coming from the front windows.

Although Bloody Marys are part of the Sunday Roast menu, we were offered a cocktail of our choice from the regular drinks menu. Paul was driving later in the day, so declined, and I reasoned that lunchtime was too early in the day to be plastered! Instead, myself and Megan sampled one of their juicy mocktails, which we were both particularly impressed with - I was not surprised to learn that they had recently won ‘Scotland’s Best Cocktail Bar’ in the Scottish Entertainment Awards 2016!

Service was very quick and we had our dinner on the table within twenty minutes. After a brief pause for suitable food photography, we were stuffing our face with either beef or chicken. Megan had a slightly smaller portion for the kids roast dinner and, knowing how difficult Logan can be with sitting through a full roast, he had a special meal of chicken, chips and beans artfully arranged with a wee wheelbarrow of ketchup!

The meal was absolutely fantastic and the accompanying veg was cooked to perfection (we even found secret stuffing hidden under the yorkie)! The only fault I could find was the fact that I had a full half chicken, on the bone, to try and munch through. Megan had a slightly smaller portion of chicken, but it was still on the bone and we both struggled to cut it into manageable pieces. In the end, Paul swapped dishes and carved our meal for us before it got too cold.

Even though me and Paul were stuffed after our generous helping, the kids were both delighted when they realised their meal also came with pudding included, especially when they saw how it was displayed on the plate!

All in all, this was a great family day out and I will definitely be returning in the near future, with or without my kids. At first, I was nervous about taking my children out for a meal in public, knowing how difficult Logan can be at times, but we felt welcomed and completely at ease. The Trading House can definitely be included in a list of family friendly restaurants; with games and colouring to amuse both children and adults alike!

  1. How cute is that little wheelbarrow with ketchup for Logan? So cute! All the food looks and sounds amazing! The colouring and games are a great idea for the kids. I'd love to try the mocktails! I don't think I could have a cocktail at lunch time either to be honest, it's a bit early for me, I'm such a light weight haha. I can see why the bar won an award, it looks fab and sounds like you all had a lovely time xx
