Hard Rock Café – Edinburgh Visit

As if we didn’t have enough things going on in our lives, I’ve now decided to add Hard Rock Cafés to the list - what could be more fun than a worldwide challenge to visit them all?! With destinations across every continent (except Antarctica), this is clearly a mission that will last my lifetime, so I thought I would begin with a visit closest to home - Edinburgh.

Located on George Street, a short walk from local travel links, it is very easy to get to. We opted to park outwith the city centre and get the tram in, stopping off at St. Andrews Square. As a member of the Hard Rock Rewards Scheme, I had my priority seating coupon in hand, but the staff informed us there was no queue and I should save it for another day. Despite us being first in line, it still took a good ten minutes to be seated – luckily the kids were not playing up at that particular moment.

We were given the option of grabbing a drink in the bar while we waited, but it was already mostly occupied with a hen do. Also, kids are not allowed in the bar area, so we were limited to the couple of chairs by the front door, which soon became pretty cramped. Nevertheless, I was determined to enjoy the experience, so I took my daughter for a browse round the ‘Rock Shop’, hoping our buzzer wouldn’t take too long to go off. She particularly loved the design on the ceiling – a circular motif with intertwining guitars.

We were eventually seated and Megan immediately requested a fruit mocktail. Her recent experience at The Trading House in Glasgow had given her a taste for them, so we ordered one with mostly berries and upgraded to the larger size so she could keep the souvenir glass. I also fancied a cocktail, but opted for the limited edition ‘Melonpalooza’ which is part of the ‘World Burger Tour’. This one was also served in a souvenir glass – perfect for enjoying more cocktails in the comfort of my own home!

Each Hard Rock Café has its own ‘Legendary Burger’, exclusive to individual locations, and Paul was keen to see what Edinburgh offered. Unfortunately, as soon as he heard the word ‘haggis’, he immediately declined and opted for the ‘Atomic Burger’ from the World Burger Tour menu, which is the local legendary of Las Vegas. I usually struggle to finish main meals, so instead opted for two starters – chicken tenders and potato skins. The kids menu also had a large variety, but Logan was only interested in his favourite meal – macaroni cheese! His arrived on a cute little guitar plate, along with his rather odd choice of side – mashed potato! Megan preferred the adult menu, so joined me with a helping of potato skins.

Suitably stuffed, we declined pudding in favour of another look round the Rock Shop. We picked up the clean versions of our souvenir glasses and I also grabbed a hoodie, complete with logo and location, to start off my collection of Hard Rock memorabilia. They also had the wee guitar plates for sale, so we picked one up for Logan to make his dinner time more exciting!

Overall, this visit to the Edinburgh café was a pleasant experience although, if I was to visit again, I think I would choose a less busy time of day or week. At full capacity, the restaurant becomes very cramped and the tables are quite close together, making movement difficult. Despite these obvious problems caused by its popularity, everything else was great! All service was prompt and our server was very pleasant and had great interaction with the kids! I would be happy to visit again in the future and maybe even be brave enough to try out the Local Legendary Burger!

Have you visited any of the other Hard Rock Cafés?

  6. I haven't been to a Hard Rock Cafe in a long time but I think the kids would love it. Good idea to remember to visit at a less busy time - I do remember it was always crowded!

    1. Make sure you either get a reservation, or you avoid peak times, the London one can get very busy! :)
